Kothakota is a newly formed Municipality in Wanaparthy District having a population of 19042 as per 2011 census spread with an extent of 12.79 Sq.Kms. It is situated on latitude 16.38136° N, and on longitude 77.94094° E Its latitude varies from (+) 352.00 mts to (+) 401.00 mts. over M.S.L. The average rainfall is 893 mm per Annum and minimum and maximum temperatures are about 20˚c and 43˚c, respectively.

Kothakota is the newly formed Municipality 135 kms away from state capital i.e. Hyderabad. Kothakota town is 6Km away from Madanapuram (Wanaparthy road) Railway station on Secunderabad-Dronachalam broad gauge railway line. Transport facilities are available to Hyderabad, Kurnool, Thirupathi, Yadagirigutta, Srisailam, Mantralayam, Badrachalam and Mumbai.

CLIMATE & RAINFALL:
The Climate of Kothakota Town is usually pleasant except in the summer months from March to May when the town gets hot. It cools down as soon as the South-West monsoon breaks out in the month of June. The South-West monsoon tapers off by the end of September and the North-East monsoon generally abrades by the middle of December. The winter months of December, January and February are dry and cold. The average rain fall is about 89.3 Cm. The bulk of the rain fall i.e., two thirds of the annual rain fall is received during the months from July to October. The mean daily maximum temperature in the hottest month of May rises to 43o-C. The mean daily minimum temperature in the cooler months of December and January falls to 20 o-C.
